    Hi!

I seem to be having a problem with my drop down menus. When i click on something that is supposed to have a drop down menu nothing appears. But if you drag the mouse pointer over where it should be then the list appears as you move the mouse down. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi Justducky.
You may have an option turned on that should be off or vis-versa. The below suggestions are based on my personal preference, you may wish to adjust choices to suit your own preferences. These are meant to optimize performance rather than "eyecandy bells and whistles ", which in my opinion only bog or slow down the computer. I may have missed one or two but I did my best to cover the bases. Anything you do with these can be undone just as easily. That said, here ya' go.....

There's several places where one may modify or customize menu options:
    1)Place number one:
    >right click desktop and chose properties
    >click on appearance tab
    >click on effects box
    >uncheck "use the current transition effect for menus and taskbar
    >I am using cleartype option for smooth font, this box is checked and "cleartype" is chosen
    >use large icons is checked and all others are unchecked

    2)Place number 2:
    >right click on the taskbar start button and choose "Properties "
    >click on "startmenu tab "
    >click on the box labeled "customize "
    >click on the "advanced Tab "
    >check is in "open sub menus when I pause in them
    >uncheck "highlight newly installed programs "
    > "Start menu" control what you wish to appear in your startmenu when you use the start button on the taskbar, these choices are yours to decide but make sure "scroll items is unchecked (unless this is your preference).

    3)Place number three:
    >right click the "My computer icon "
    >select properties
    >Click on the "advanced tab "
    >In the first section labeled "performance" click on the "settings box "
    >Click on "visual effects tab "
    >click on the "customize button "
    >uncheck all except the last three choices on the list and three boxes up from that is "smooth edges of screen fonts" make sure this is checked. (in all four options are checked all others are unchecked).

    4)place number four
    From within IE (internet explorer)
    >click on the toolbar> "tools "
    >click on "options "
    >click on the "advanced tab "
    >make sure option "use personalized menus" is unchecked

    5)Place number five:
    http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cach...startmenu&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1&lr=lang_en

Keep in mind that default speed is 400 the lower you set this number the faster the menu responds.

If you prefer you can use this regpatch to make the reg tweak for you, rather then doing this yourself manually, let me know and I'll find one for ya'. I know some users are nervous about editing the registry themselves. Do this with appropriate care and precautions.
